Medicine for the Times: Visualizing the Best Case Scenario
There have been a lot of uncertain times over the last 25 years. We’ve lived through 9/11, the economic crash of 2008, the pandemic, and now… whatever this is. It feels like another wave of deep, systemic change.
There have been days recently when it's been hard to manage my nervous system amidst the onslaught of news and noise. It’s easy to get swept up in anxiety, fear, or doomscrolling. But these shifts aren’t just personal — they’re global, even galactic. Astrologically, we're living through transits that haven’t happened in centuries. Something is happening. So… what do we do about it?
Don’t worry about sounding professional. Sound like you. There are over 1.5 billion websites out there, but your story is what’s going to separate this one from the rest. If you read the words back and don’t hear your own voice in your head, that’s a good sign you still have more work to do.
Be clear, be confident and don’t overthink it. The beauty of your story is that it’s going to continue to evolve and your site can evolve with it. Your goal should be to make it feel right for right now. Later will take care of itself. It always does.
It’s really hard not to freak out.
It’s hard not to fall into pessimism.
But here’s what I’ve been doing instead — and maybe it will inspire you too.
I’ve been doubling down on prayer.
I’ve been working through the chakra meditations.
I’ve been praying the rosary.
I’ve been visualizing.
I’ve been tapping.
And I’ve been making art.
Most importantly, I’ve been calling my friends.
I’ve gone through my contact list and reached out to people I haven’t spoken to in years. Some people call back. Some don’t. That’s okay. What’s been magical is what does happen when someone picks up.
In the last few weeks, I’ve reconnected with people I haven’t spoken to in over 20 years.
They reminded me of things I’d forgotten.
They were thrilled to hear from me.
I got leads for work, recommendations for books, shows, inspiration, new collaborations.
I got to share what my kids are up to.
What I’ve been creating.
The Helix Institute and the Healing Collective.
The heartbreak I’ve walked through.
The joy my dog brings me.
The art show I’m excited about.
The stress of caregiving.
And just the beauty of being a 50-something Father, Project Manager, Reverend, artist and former Punk Rocker from New Jersey.
I’ve gotten to listen too — to friends navigating illness, loss, parenting, weird stories about dogs eating strange things, tales of adventures and misadventures, even some rock-n-roll debauchery. It’s been… incredible.
And I’ve been doing it old school:
Phone calls.
Voicemails.
Singing little songs.
Just reaching out like we used to.
It’s been the freaking best.
So here’s my advice: call someone you haven’t talked to in way too long. Reconnect. Let life surprise you.
If you want to talk to me, please reach out and we can talk, like on the phone. If we never have spoken before, lets do it.
